Years of rust and weeds gather on and around tour buses, school buses and charter buses in James Dalton's backyard junkyard in Baxter, Tenn. Reclaimed by nature, over 50 buses from the 1940s to 1970s, are left over from Dalton's charter business that he started in 1981 when he drove people from Cookeville to the World's Fair in Knoxville. Dalton's bus collection grew to almost 200 buses in the late '80s. Most of the buses were purchased from Nashville and Knoxville city auctions, and a few were found for sale on the roadside. One of the favorites in the yard is a 1940's tour bus found in Hendersonville. But after 9/11, the high cost of insurance put the brakes on Dalton Bus Service. Now his son, Charles, sells the vintage bus parts all over the world.
