Luc Novovitch is a former staff photographer for Agence France-Presse, Gamma and Reuters. After more than two decades working as a photojournalist in Europe, Africa and the U.S., Novovitch came to the Big Bend area of Texas in 1998, seduced by the desert and mountains landscape, to concentrate anew on documentaries and fine art photography. He opened the Sotol Gallery on Marathon's  main street, where from 1999 to 2004 he displayed his work, along with selected work by other photographers. The closure of the gallery was done to allow him more time to concentrate on personal and long term projects in the U.S. and abroad, and to realize documentaries like Islands of Shame, in Japan, a film documentary about Roman Catholic Women Priests ( God's Daughters), and most recently Sheriff, a fil documentary about the sheriff of the largest county in Texas, bordering Mexico: Brewster County.
